Designer collaborations. Once upon a time, we couldn’t contain our excitement. These days? Overexposed, overhyped and usually overpriced. Unless it’s Coco Chanel herself designing a one-off collection for the 99p store, we don’t want to know about it, much less start queueing at dawn. And then we hear about a capsule collection of covetable silk scarves created by super cool designer Sophie Hulme for Liberty London….
Inspired by the brand’s seasonal charms, the exclusive collection of six scarves shows the same level of detail, sense of fun and elegant understatement that we’ve grown to expect from Hulme. “Yes, we do fun stuff because it’s also important to me that the brand has a certain playfulness to it… So many people take fashion too seriously and at the end of the day, it’s not, is it?”
“We have incorporated this playfulness and appreciation of ordinary objects into the scarf collection. We have also taken inspiration from classic vintage scarves to give a grown-up aesthetic much like the mainline collection.”
A simple colour palette of navy, white, gold with delicate pops of fuschia gives the collection a chic subtlety, while the retro-style patterns are irresistibly ladylike. And then there’s the inimitable Hulme sense of humour with images of chip forks, cocktail stirrers and candle holders – it’s that cheeky in-joke that shows that you’re not someone who takes fashion – or themselves – too seriously. It doesn’t get any cooler than that!
