Linda Rodin is a woman who does things differently. Can you launch your own beauty brand with a single product? You betcha. And what are your chances of your luxury facial oil becoming a cult must-have pretty much overnight? You just watch. Yes, that’s Linda Rodin – the instantly-recognisable creator of best-selling Rodin Olio Lusso, and one-woman phenomenon behind the Rodin beauty brand. The media might not show enough stylish ‘older women’, but 68-year-old Rodin – with her signature silver mane and elegant, understated look – is an exception to that rule. And why do things like everyone else? You fancy launching a capsule collection of lipsticks? You damn well do it!
Yes, that’s exactly what Linda Rodin did next – launching her own Rodin line of five lipsticks. Guess what? They’re as fantastic as you’d anticipate they might be. So why lipcolour? “I feel a bit naked without lipstick… my mother never left the house without it,” says Rodin. She’s spent over a year creating the collection, personally attending to every detail from the creamy, velvety-matte texture to the transparent packaging – a clever detail which makes grabbing your favourite colour on the go (or from the depths of your handbag) easy-peasy.
Matte lipsticks can be drying, but – of course – these are infused with Rodin’s luxurious Olio Lusso blend of jasmine and neroli oils, leaving lips feeling soft, smooth and hydrated. There’s also Vitamins C and E to nourish, rose and lavender flower waxes and rich apricot, argan and meadowflower seed oils. And the colours? Just five shades makes for a concise collection, but there’s something to suit all complexions here – whether you wear bright lipstick on the daily, add a sexy slick of colour come sundown, or file it under ‘strictly for special occasions’.
Winks is a zingy, lively cerise shade, while reds come in the form of Red Hedy (a true, bright red named after Hedy Lamarr) and Tough Tomato (a punchy orange-red that looks great on blondes). Then there’s Billie On The Bike, which is a gloriously feminine suits-everyone berry shade named after Rodin’s mother. So Mod – the fifth lipstick in the collection – is the perfect pale pink nude colour à la Brigitte Bardot. The lipcolours “magically bring the face to life,” says Rodin. “No one we know can choose just one.” Right again Ms Rodin, right again.
