Who is she?

Morv is the brainchild of Morvarid Sahafi, a London-dwelling, Iranian-born, super glamorous designer and artist. A globetrotter from childhood, Sahafi grew up as a citizen of the world, with her ambassador father working in countries including Afghanistan, Russia, Czechoslovakia and Sweden.

Awarded a scholarship to study at Parsons School of Design, at 18 she moved to Paris, before undertaking a masters in Contemporary Art at Goldsmiths in London. She’s worked as an artist and designer since graduation, and Morv’s eponymous label is a quite unlike anything we’ve come across before. Her sources of inspiration? She’s often inspired by people and personalities, whether that’s artist Francis Bacon or her muse and stylist friend Johanna Boch.

The Look?

Tough and edgy meets delicate and feminine. Morv is a designer who loves to play with contrasts – whether that’s the mix of supple, butter-soft leather with sheer crepe and the softest velvet or the voluminous maxi-lengths combined with thigh-skimming mini proportions. All of the pieces in her autumn/winter 2015 collection are undoubtedly luxurious and very, very sexy – there’s absolutely no understatement here, so if you’re a fan of minimalism a la Céline, you can look away now.

Although the collection is capsule-sized, there are textured leathers, dresses that fit like a glove, and floor-sweeping gowns with peekaboo lace panels that show just the right amount of skin. In red, blue, burgundy and black, the colour palette is simple and chic, letting the expertly-tailored pieces and intricate lace do all the talking. We’re as bored as everyone else of the term ‘statement’, but pretty much 100% of Morv’s collection falls into that category. These are pieces for sexy, confident women who know what they want – or as Sahafi puts it: “the easy-going fun girl who doesn’t mind being in the spotlight but who wouldn’t go out of her way to get attention – she is free and wild. The collection should make them look effortlessly beautiful, so they can play and dance like no one is watching.”
