Manis, tans, blow-dries and facials. Why would you bother taking time to trek to a salon or spa, when you could simply schedule someone to come and do their beautifying magic in the comfort of your very own home? Whether you fancy a lash tint in the living room, a bikini wax in your bathroom or a deep tissue massage in the dining room, on-demand beauty providers have got you covered. But which one to choose? Tried and very thoroughly tested, these are London’s ten best mobile beauty services…

Ruuby: The Little Black Book of Beauty

Offering a booking service for both at-home and in-salon services, Ruuby is like having access to a Little Black Book of London’s best salons, spas and therapists. Of course, whether it’s a salon or someone who’ll come to your place, they’re all carefully vetted, and you can read a magazine-style description of what they specialise in – whether it’s nail art, bouncy blow dries or pain-free Brazilian waxing. If you need to book asap, you can see who’s available instantly via the Ruuby app, or bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance. There’s also a clever Concierge button so you can ask the Ruuby team any questions or make special requests.

The Signature Treatment

Try a spray tan at home once, and you’ll be a convert forever. After all, who wants to schlepp it on the tube while Oompa-Loompa-esque and wearing sweatpants? Exactly. I booked a faux glow with Jayde who’s apparently a favourite with Ruuby regulars and celebs alike. Jayde uses St Tropez, Vita Liberata and Sienna X products, and always chooses a tan to suit each individual. Once she’d popped up a mini tent in my living room, Jayde worked quickly to create a sunkissed look – chatting away and giving me loads of useful tips on tan maintenance too. Result? Seven days of a beautifully natural streak-free golden glow which wore off very gradually. Book by downloading Ruuby’s free mobile app.

PRIV: Last minute bookings

The Uber of beauty services. Taking a cue from its successful mobile business in NYC and LA, PRIV enables you to tap into masseurs, manicurists, even personal trainers, who will arrive at your home, office or hotel in under an hour. The app rather cleverly shows you where they are during their journey to you too. Booking via the app allows you to browse the reviews and portfolio for the specialist that suits your time slot and there’s also a Concierge service that can assist in matching you up should you want it. The vast number of services on offer – from attaching hair extensions to a customised spray tan to make-up with heavy contouring – means anything can be at your door between 7am and 11pm.

The Signature treatment

As PRIV are constantly adding new twists on traditional services, I booked a Manicure and Dry Pedicure (£50) with Simona but opted for a Japanese nail finish. Rather than using regular colour, beeswax is pressed into the nail to nourish it then mineral powders are buffed on to smooth the surface and add a healthy shine so glossy it that lasts for weeks. Perfect 10: For A VIP Experience

Perfect 10 launched back in 2011, and has since gained a stellar reputation as one of London’s best mobile beauty providers, with a high profile clientele and discreet, highly-trained therapists. 2o15 saw the company up the ante with its services, adding Perfect 10 Black Label: an elite division giving members exclusive 24-hour access to treatments delivered to their home, villa, ski chalet or yacht (we did say luxe!). The company offers one of the most comprehensive selections of treatments in London too – including everything from eyelash extensions to reflexology, personal training and pedicures.

The Signature Treatment

Perfect 10 uses luxurious Natura Bissé products for its facials which promise instant results. The £150 Diamond Experience Energy Facial is a ‘Red Carpet Ready’ treatment which instantly firms, sculpts and tones the face – ideal if you’ve got a big event coming up and want to look your best. Exfoliation, expert massage and top quality skincare ensures that fine lines are banished, leaving skin radiant, lifted, glowing and plumped – in just one hour. Book treatments via Perfect 10’s website.

Secret Spa: Call The Glam Squad

Based in Chelsea, Secret Spa specialises in luxury beauty services for busy, time-poor Londoners. The city’s ‘fourth emergency service’ gives you access to an on-demand network of elite therapists, all hand-picked for their expertise – whether you need a quick file and paint, a brightening facial to get your glow back, or even a Brazilian blow-dry. Best of all, Secret Spa offers themed packages – perfect if you have a special occasion coming up or want to treat yourself. You can get Party Ready with a spray tan plus gel mani-pedi or even book Date Night or Monthly Essentials packages. Secret Spa’s group packages are fantastic if you’re planning an evening in with the girls too.

The Signature Treatment

Ahead of an evening event, I booked the Party Make-up & Hair Styling package (£100). I love a copper-toned smoky eye and bouncy blow-dry as much as the next girl, but can pretty much never be bothered to take the time to do either on myself! Once we’d decided the look I was going for, my expert stylist got to work, creating glamorous curls and sultry makeup in only 90 minutes. And with just the right level of chat, I could actually multi-task and blast through my inbox while she made me look far more polished than usual. I’ll be booking again. Toop & Daley: Customise Your Time

While combining a massage with a manicure into one at-home booking may not be available from some mobile services, Toop & Daley offer truly multi-tasking session slots within London’s Zone 1-3. Simply book a set number of minutes from 120 upwards and you can tailor your appointment to fit in as many nail, wax and tinting services – or even a massage – as possible, with one person. This ‘YouTime’ is even charged at a simple £1 per minute, meaning if you want to swap from a manicure to a bikini wax and lash tint, for example, there’s no problem.

The Signature treatment

With just an hour to spare before a big night out, I booked a Gellish manicure in the perfect classic red and a blue-black eyelash tint, as well as a reviving neck and shoulder massage to set me up for the evening. Throughout the appointment, my therapist Charlie offered plenty of insider advice on aftercare and shades that suit me until eventually, I was 100% party-ready. Book by emailing, or see the Toop & Daley website for more info.

Urban Massage: Ultimate At-Home Relaxation

Operating in six cities across the UK (London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow), Urban Massage only offer one service – but they’re consummate experts when it comes to (you guessed it!) massage. There’s a range of different massages to suit all requirements – whether it’s a tension-busting Deep Tissue, a muscle-easing Sports massage or even an anti-cellulite treatment. Booking is via the Urban Massage app or website, with a user-friendly interface allowing you to select a type of massage, your preferred therapist and then the time and date. Feeling stressed? You can even book a massage within the hour!

The Signature Treatment

With tense shoulders and an achy upper back, the only thing to sort out the strains of spending too long hunched over a screen has to be a Deep Tissue massage (from £65 for one hour). Nina popped open her portable massage table, and used essential oils to really get deep into the muscles and work on the knots in my shoulders – asking me to tell her if it was getting too much. I was aching the next day, but felt like I was standing taller, and holding so much less tension. Result! Book by visiting the Urban Massage site or downloading their app.

Blow LTD Fast Beauty: Super Speedy Services

With a roster including hair and make-up artists who regularly work to tight deadlines on film, TV and photo shoots, Blow LTD is all about speed. Not restricted to a salon look book, the styles that can be achieved in a short time are created to be modern and wearable too. All the hairstylists are trained to work on ‘off duty’, dry tresses to create bespoke styles or from a menu of eight finishes, while there are four make-up looks – think day and smoky – that can be customized to suit you. Nail and lash technicians will also make the trip to your door in Zones 1 – 3, and you can indulge in a facial using cult US brand, Sunday Riley first.

The Signature treatment

I’m not used to having my hair styled dry but do hate the usual prolonged pulling when it’s wet, making the Blow Dry menu perfect. I go Beach Blow. Armed with a hairdryer and tongs, in well under 40 minutes (and for £40), Sophie gives me perfect tousled waves that look soft and natural as well as a product recommendation card and some face-flattering styling tips. Book online or via the BLOW Ltd mobile app.

MILK Beauty: smart monthly maintenance

For regular essential beauty needs including tanning, nails and waxing, MILK Beauty brings the salon to your home from 10am to 10pm. Book individual treatments or there’s a clever (and purse-friendly) £65 per-month ‘Pick & Mix Subscription’ service that allows you to pick two 30-min treatments, including leg waxing, lash & brow tinting and a manicure: perfect if you like regular upkeep but forget to book salon appointments. The treatment menu is constantly updated too, including the new London bikini wax, created at MILK’s Training Academy to leave you a little less stripped than a Brazilian.

The Signature treatment

The MILK massage (£70) taps into the wellbeing trend for coconut oil with a rich application of the raw, organic solid stuff that melts onto the skin, ready to be massaged in with a variety of techniques from lymphatic drainage to pressure point. My therapist Michelle tells me it’s less sticky, will nourish the hair too, and won’t spill on my floor. Add to that I’m transported to the tropics and it’s bliss. Book online via the MILK Beauty website.

Prettly: Instant, Easy, Chic

Offering at-home beauty treatments ‘By Women, For Women’, Prettly launched in 2013 and has been growing steadily ever since. Prettly keeps it simple, with services on offer including nails, hair, makeup, waxing and threading – and prices are very reasonable too. The website allows you to book by day/time or by therapist, so if you’ve got a favourite manicurist you can see when they’re free. Prettly also features customer reviews of every therapist, plus how many treatments they’ve completed which is helpful. Their group booking service is perfect if you fancy a fun night in with your friends, or something a little different at the office.

The Signature Treatment

Waiting around for my manicure to dry in a salon always feels like a complete waste of time, so an at-home mani and pedi is multi-tasking genius. Manicures are the treatment that Prettly launched with too, so they definitely know their stuff when it comes to nails. £50 will get you a full mani-pedi – with Prettly’s top customer-rated therapist Birgit arriving with a fantastic selection of classic and on-trend colours. A quick, super-professional service, my nails were shaped, buffed and polished to perfection in under 90 minutes. Book treatments online via Prettly’s website.

Treatwell: Independent Local Therapists

Formely known as Wahanda, Treatwell specialise in salon and spa bookings across the UK. What you might not know, is that it’s also a site (and app) where you can find independent professionals, plus ratings from happy (or not so happy) customers too. Search for ‘mobile’ and you’ll find hairdressers, nail technicians, reflexologists and massage therapists who work independently and can provide services wherever and whenever you need. You can see when they’re free via the site and book instantly, so if you fancy a quick hair cut or speedy wax the same afternoon, you’ve got it.

The Signature Treatment

I booked a Shellac mani and a head, neck and shoulder massage with local Urban Mobile Beauty – which also offers waxing, eyelash extensions and brow tinting. My therapist arrived ahead of time and got set up, with a fold-out bed and a selection of massage oils to choose from. No need to go and rinse off or carefully change clothes after the treatment, with tense shoulders eased, I popped on my dressing gown and picked out a nail colour. Bookings can be made via Treatwell’s website or mobile app.
