Jacqueline Gold needs absolutely no introduction. The Chief Executive of Ann Summers and Knickerbox, Gold has garnered numerous awards and accolades, making the list of  Britain’s 100 Most Influential Women and being voted one of the Most Powerful Women in retail, not to mention the Most Inspirational Businesswoman in the UK. So far, so superlative. But behind the multi-million pound business, what is it that makes Gold tick? We found out…

Motivation for me is all about…

Staying focused on what we are trying to achieve as a business. I’m as passionate about the business today as I was 30 years ago, and every day I wake up keen to move the business forward and give our customers even more of what they want. I’m incredibly lucky that a company like Ann Summers never stands still and every day is different, so it’s not difficult to stay motivated.

Success means…

Knowing that you have achieved your goals and that you have performed to the best of your ability.

I couldn’t have got there without…

A lot of determination, courage and passion and the never-ending support of my friends and family.

I always start my day with…

My daughter Scarlett and enjoying breakfast together. Scarlett is four years old and at school now, so it’s important that we start the day together and have that quality time.

When I don’t feel inspired I…

Remind myself of why I do what I do, find the passion I have for the business and use this to help me feel inspired.<

The landscape for women in business today looks…

Less like it used to which is an improvement, but not enough like it should do. When I started in business 30 years ago there were hardly any women in business or on boards. It’s true that there are now many more women in top level positions and choosing business as a career path, but if you ask me there are still not enough. We need to do more to encourage and inspire women to realise their potential, and to help them find the passion, confidence and belief to succeed.

The trait I most deplore in others is…

Laziness. I hate people that sit back and let others do their job for them. Everyone should be responsible for their own workload and I don’t have time for people who don’t want to make every moment count.

I’d like to be remembered for…

Being the woman that empowered every woman in the world to feel like the sexiest woman in the world.

What makes me happiest is…

Hearing how what we do at Ann Summers has allowed women to feel more confident not only in the bedroom but the boardroom too. I’m fully committed to supporting and empowering women in all aspects of their lives and I hope that my work with Ann Summers and the mentoring I offer gives something back, and allows women across the UK to realise how inspiring and successful they are and can be.

Can I run in heels?

Absolutely!
