We know, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But yep, we pretty much always do. Can we apply the same logic to chocolate? Looking at Coco Chocolatier‘s pretty-as-a-picture packaging, the fine organic chocolate should be as exquisite as it’s elegant. And guess what? It really, really is.

Just to mention a few of the grown-up Willy Wonka-esque flavours that Coco Chocolatier offers: caramel, hazelnut and Isle of Skye sea salt; Earl Grey tea and bergamot; gin & tonic; orange, lemon and geranium; raspberry and vanilla bean…. Sorry if you’re salivating on your phone screen right now!

Sure to please design aficionados and chocoholics alike, Edinburgh-based Coco Chocolatier’s artisan chocolate is not only aesthetically-pleasing, it’s also organic and ethically-produced. So which comes first, the packaging or the product? It’s the chocolate of course! “Our team of chocolatiers try out multiple flavour combinations and ideas, these are then sampled by staff and customers. We choose what we believe are the best combinations,” explains the brand’s MD Calum Haggerty.

And the packaging? “The designs come from a variety of places, some local, some from further afield. Once we have new flavours and designs, we sit down as a team and pick what we believe feels right – no hard and fast rules though.” And so we have graceful pale blue waves to represent the delicate flavours of silky smooth milk chocolate accentuated with a hint of sea salt and punctuated with crisp hazelnuts. Artsy splashes of paint represent Coco Chocolatier’s distinctive gin & tonic-flavoured dark chocolate, while the deliciously floral Earl Grey and bergamot has pretty lilac and violet-hued blooms. Judge chocolate by its packaging? Most definitely. And this lot all gets a resounding seal of approval from Team RIH!
