This month’s Running in Heels cover story was shot by David Ranc. We found out a bit more about the people involved…
David Ranc – Photographer
David Ranc has been practising and teaching as a photographer in Paris, London & Montpellier for a number of years. After spending far too much time pursuing (then against all odds obtaining) a PhD in International Relations from Cambridge, he is now devoting his time to photography, teaching, type-design – and head-hunting. He is inspired by photographers such as Frank Horvat, Sarah Moon, Cecil Beaton and André Kertész and names one of his style icons as the Duke of Edinburgh! David is currently listening to Boulez’s “Dialogue de l’Ombre Double”, Ravel’s orchestral works and the percussions of Xenakis. In five years he’d like to be living in Brazil or Paris, but if he happened to end up on a desert island, he’d like to take Proust’s masterwork A la Recherche du Temps Perdu with him. David Ranc is not a man who runs in heels!
His work can be seen on www.davidranc.com
Robert Attard – Assistant photographer, assistant stylist and make-up
Robert ‘Wob’ Attard is a self taught photographer, and has been doing photography for a year and a half. He is hoping to pursue a career in fashion photography, and also enjoys taking portraits, and photographing places. In terms of culture, he is inspired by Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali and Jim Morrisson but when it comes to fashion he is fan of Dame Vivienne Westwood and photographer Terry Richardson. Robert’s favourite hangout in London is the trendy Hoxton Bar and Kitchen and when in the capital, he mainly shops in vintage boutiques. He would be lost without his phone, camera and a supply of chocolate. Robert admits to having tried wearing heels at a few fancy dress parties, but is by no means proficient at running in them.
Giselle Millard – Model
Half French, half English Giselle was born in Cheshire and following her English Literature degree in Manchester, she moved to London to study Law. Since then, she has spent a year teaching in South Korea, before deciding to embark on a career in executive search. When it comes to fashion, Giselle is inspired by Luella, Chanel, PPQ and…her grandmother! Her dream purchase would be a couture item, but for the moment she settles with vintage finds in East London. Giselle names her essential items as chocolate and high heels and in her spare time she enjoys painting, dance and travelling. She can run in heels, provided they are the sturdy, good quality kind!
Agnieska Ilska – Model
Polish Agnieszka Ilska studied at the University of Greenwich and has also been working for many years as a Project Manager for many famous London Restaurants. An expert in marketing and the organisation of new restaurant concepts in London, she is the face of her main project, the restaurant Yalla Yalla Restaurant – Beirut Street Food in Soho, London, which she opened with her partner Jad Youssef and which offers Lebanese flavourful cooking in the middle of Soho. When she is not working you’ll find her travelling, watching movies, seeing friends or reading a good book.
Guillaume Drapier – Jewellery Design
Before studying at the Royal College of Art, Imperial College and Imperial College Business School, Guillaume worked as a product designer, design strategist and ideation machine. He is now looking at commercialising products he developed either alone or with his design group, 1234lab. His main projects are currently 8hertz, which provided the exquisite jewellery for this fashion series, and a crowd-sourced authoring platform supposed to save the newspaper industry. When he is not designing new things you’ll find him reading obscure books, watching obscure movies, playing strategy games or playing bass. Have a look at his website here.
Clothes for the shoot were kindly lent by fashion designer Kirsti Mairie. After a handful of successful collections in London, Kirsti now works solely on commission, for one-off made-to-measures pieces elaborated through close collaboration with her celebrity clients.
The photoshoot took place at Yalla Yalla – Beirut Street Food, a Lebanese street food restaurant which opened in the heart of Soho about three weeks ago. Their address is :1,Greens Court, London W1F 0HA.
