Faced with heat and humidity – be it in the city or on holiday – my natural instinct is to ditch foundation and attempt some sort of barefaced chic. However while revealing my make-up free facial flaws in public doesn’t particularly appeal, it’s the multiple benefits for my skin that really has me reaching for the latest skin tints. From moisturisers to alphabet creams, they are packed with complexion-perfecting pigments, protective SPF’s and a host of ingredients with a proven track record of skin-boosting properties. That’s what I call a win-win…

Burberry Fresh Glow BB Cream SPF20

For super-sheer coverage that still somehow manages to make skin look brighter, better and younger, look no further than Burberry’s Fresh Glow. It hydrates and protects while the colour pigments ensure it’s a perfect skin match, but the real genius comes from the light-diffusing complex that boosts luminosity, creates an even looking canvas and blurs out fine lines. The balm-like texture means it makes your face feel stroke-ably soft too.

ole henriksen perfect truth™ cc crème

Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth CC Crème SPF30

The key ingredient in this cream from the Danish super-facialist is vitamin C, which brightens up any dullness, helps boost collagen production and smoothes fine lines. It’s also packed with antioxidants and UV filters to ward off sun damage, as well as plenty of nourishing and plumping skin treats. There’s a slight sheen to the finish, making this a great choice for dry or dehydrated skin, plus the delicious orangey scent is a lovely pick-me-up.

summer skin tints

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops

This isn’t actually a wear–alone tint but rather an inspired creation that allows you to colour-match any liquid – moisturiser, serum, foundation, even body lotion – to your exact skin tone. The pure pigment is formulated to add into the unction of your choice to give you customised coverage: one drop for sheer and up to four drops for full-on. There are an impressive 25 shades and I’ve opted for one slightly deeper than my natural skin tone to mix in with my skin tints now that there’s a prospect of a tan (both real and fake) in sight. Here comes the sun…

beneift big easy

BeneFit Big Easy SPF35

A great choice for oilier or combination skin, Big Easy glides on like a cream but dries down to a more powdery finish that helps keep the complexion looking fresh and matt. There’s plenty of coverage to hide large pores and imperfections, but added moisturisers stop the end result from looking too heavy or dry. And top marks for pigments that use clever self-adjusting technology to provide an exact colour match.

Crème De La Mer The Reparative Skin Tint SPF30

Back by popular demand after a few years absence, this Beauty Editor’s favourite has all the anti-ageing benefits you’d expect from the cult brand, including plumping and pore-refining. It’s also deeply nourishing so a good option for drier complexions, plus it’s packed full of protective antioxidants. There’s an impressive amount of coverage too – certainly enough to hide my pores and even out the odd red blotch – and the colour blends seamlessly with your own skin tone for an ultra-natural finish.
