Imperfections! Skin tone! Sun protection! When BB creams first launched, it sounded like they might be the answer to all our beauty prayers (okay, we don’t generally pray about beauty…). Not to mention that they’re all the rage in Asia – which is generally acknowledged to be light years ahead of the West when it comes to skincare. But you can be forgiven if you’re feeling just a little bb-bored of BB and even CC creams – everyone seems to have jumped on the bandwagon. Are there any products that are actually worth knowing about, or is this just a flash-in-the-pan phenomenon cooked up by some mad scientist with a penchant for alliteration? These five have been thoroughly put through their paces – and get a ‘this works’ thumbs up from us.

The Compact One

Per-fekt’s clever Skin Perfection CC Creme comes in a handy compact meaning that it’s perfect (sorry!) for touch-ups on the go. The silky smooth cream formula applies beautifully, giving natural buildable coverage with all the benefits of a CC cream: imperfections are concealed and pores are reduced, plus there’s SPF 30 to protect. Can you take care of your skin and get a flawless, almost airbrushed look? It might just be possible.best new bb creams

The Under-Eye One

A CC Cream for the delicate under eye area. Yes! Where have you been all our lives? Banishing dark circles and under-eye bags can become an endless process of serum-moisturiser-primer-concealer – and who has the time to do that every morning? Ole Henriksen’s Perfect Truth CC Eye Crème does it all – hydrating, protecting with SPF 15 and correcting colour. And the smartypants wonder balm is also formulated with vitamin C to firm and protect, as well as anti-ageing ingredients that strengthen skin and reduce fine lines instantly – and over time. Light-reflecting pigments provide a glowy, luminous finish, and it smells delicious too.

The Anti-Ageing One

Clinique’s skin-perfecting Age Defense BB Cream SPF 30 is supercharged with anti-ageing ingredients to banish those pesky fine lines. The long-wearing formula lasts pretty well, so if you apply in the morning, you can expect your skin to stay shine-free and slightly dewy all day. Providing smooth, medium coverage, there are three suits-all-skin tones shades to choose from. Works equally well solo (with a dab of concealer) or used as a primer.

The One Which Says It Isn’t a BB Cream

Promising to hydrate, prime, enhance, mattify and protect, the Miracle Skin Transformer from Sarah McNamara certainly sounds like it’s a BB Cream by any other name. We were really impressed by the lightweight feel and effective coverage this 5-in-1 multi-tasker provides, minimizing the appearance of pores and blemishes while boosting radiance and evening out skin tone. It’s also made with a combination of vitamins and anti-oxidants designed to improve your skin long-term such as Vitamin E, Saw Palmetto extract and CoEnzyme Q10. And sun protection comes as standard, of course.

The One Which Actually Isn’t a BB Cream

We’re really not too sure why L’Oreal’s Nude Magique BB Blush has been so named. Jumping on the BB-buzz perhaps, as it doesn’t actually have any of the benefits of a BB cream. That said, this is an absolutely genius product; it’s a gel formula blusher which adapts to your skin tone to give a natural, long-lasting glow. The semi-sheer formula blends in easily giving a pretty, rosy flush – it’s an instant pick-me-up for your complexion.
