Top tens and best books lists – we love them and hate them in equal measure. On one hand, a simple way of helping us choose new reading material (great if you haven’t got hours to spend browsing at your local bookshop); on the other, a wildly subjective method of collecting together novels – best-seller status (Fifty Shades, anyone?) doesn’t necessary mean that a book is worth reading.
