Put your blazers away, find some wardrobe space for that bomber jacket and check your trench into the dry cleaners. This season’s must-have cover-up? Prepare to wholeheartedly embrace Talitha Getty-esque boho luxe, for the kimono is here. Catwalked at Gucci, Anna Sui and Balmain, the kimono is ornate, elaborate and a little ostentatious while remaining eminently wearable. Think of it as a very, very posh cardigan. Made of silk. Possibly with a spectacular print and/or intricate embroidery. And maybe some tassels too.

It might sound a little OTT, but believe it or not, the loose-fitting, free-flowing kimono is 100% effortless. Throw it on over an evening gown, pop on over a bikini to take you from beach to bar or even pair with a tee and your favourite loose-fit jeans, the kimono is oh-so-easy to wear. athena procopiou spring summer 2014

Our favourites are from Athena Procopiou, a print expert whose unique cover-ups and scarves have been enchanting the fashion pack since she graduated from Central St Martins. This season Procopiou’s collection – Chasing Utopia – was inspired by exotic locations, and unsurprisingly it’s summer holiday perfection. Where do you fancy travelling to? Perhaps to Crete’ with the Gypsetter or otherwise the Bohemian in Byron? Then again, there’s always Dancing in Rio or Nightfall at Nganga. We’ve booked our ticket already…
